Experimental Grasses and Forbes

Linum Lewisii / Blue Praire Flax

I picked this gem up at a Plant Delights sale back in late Spring 2021.  I love the steel blue foliage and the loose open form.  I planted this in my ‘experimental’ garden along the upper edge of a drainage swale.  It stays fairly dry and receives about 5 – 6 hours of sun starting in the late morning until mid-late afternoon.  I planted it directly into my heavy red clay with minimal amendments in order to gain an understanding of it’s tolerance to our native soil conditions.  So far it has performed nicely.  I haven’t seen much growth, final size is slated at 2′ x 2′, but it is blooming like a champ!  The purple-blue flowers are about the size of a quarter and have a slight droop to them.  They create a nice pop when planted in front of a green backdrop.
